Maine’s Positive Story of the Day from Jonesport Elementary School ~
This year Jonesport Elementary School participated in the 5th annual WinterKids Winter Games. Previously JES had placed 2nd in 2020. This year the WinterKids games meant community to the school. After taking a hiatus due to Covid, being able to participate in a program that was all about getting outside, getting moving, and having fun was the best thing ever. The parents and the community could participate in all the family events due to the nature of the activities. When it came time for the closing ceremonies, the road beside the school was lined with families and community members cheering and taking pictures. This year WinterKids Winter Games provided 4 weeks of fun and engagement at just the right time. JES was awarded $10,000! The school plans to buy an apple cider press and ice skates. Jonesport Elementary School will also be making a donation to the EdGE program as part of the Maine Seacoast Mission’s Downeast Campus in Cherryfield. EdGE provided ice skates to the school to use for the ice skating/math event of WinterKids. JES is currently working on building their own Outdoor Classroom as part of their school. Money from Winterkids will go towards making that a reality.
