Maine’s Positive Story of the Day from Mt. Blue Middle School in Farmington ~
At Mt. Blue Middle School we have implemented a Kindness Campaign in order to get students and staff out of the COVID funk. We started the campaign with a student competition on what our slogan would be. Students had a week to put slogans into a box and then it was voted on by staff. This enabled everyone a chance to have input. Once the slogans were decided upon (We couldn’t choose just one) Kindness Counts, In a World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind and We Rise By Lifting Others- we had our impact club make posters to distribute around the school to remind students and teachers to be kind. Every day during announcements in December we announce three students (one from each grade level) who have typified kindness. Students are also completing teacher golden tickets in order to recognize staff that are doing the same. Staff will be announced at our student of the month assembly at the end of the month.
In general we are really pushing kindness at school as we have seen so many students struggle with social emotional issues. This was a simple way to get everyone thinking about being kind.
