Maine’s Positive Story of the Day from Canal School in Westbrook ~

Though times around the globe, across the country, and in our community remain difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic, here at Canal School we are finding ways to keep our school spirit strong!  This Fall, we held an event called Book-Tober, where students and staff dressed up like some of their favorite book characters and had a day to engage with books all across our school and outdoor campus.  We arranged stations throughout the afternoon for students to interact with including bookmark making, read alouds, book character pictographs, silly mad libs, a story walk, word collectors, and book kahoot.  A healthy snack was provided to keep us fueled for all the literacy fun.  And, of course, students went home with a free book thanks to our Adopt a School partnership with Baker Newman Noyes.  It was a day that reminded us all of our Canal Coyote spirit and allowed us to come together to enjoy stories, a medium that connects us all.
