Maine’s Positive Story of the Day ~

The fifth-grade students at Miller School in Waldoboro, recently had the opportunity to work in the Miller School gardens.  They helped move compost and spread it on the plants in preparation for winter.

This project required students to pre-plan, problem-solve and cooperate with peers.   After studying ecosystems and learning about how organisms depend on one other, the students were able to see first-hand what compost looks like.   They looked closely to see if there were any decomposers or other organisms living in the compost.  As a result of the project, students had some interesting scientific discussions.
