Maine’s Positive Story of the Day ~
This year at Mount View Elementary School in Thorndike, Maine, Principal Alicia McCormick and her staff have made equity and cultural responsiveness a high priority. In collaboration with teacher Christina Hall, Mrs. McCormick shares a daily cultural fact with all students during morning announcements. Each month a different cultural heritage is highlighted in and around a “Culture Corner” bulletin board, at the entrance of MVES, maintained by Ms. Hall. Additionally, students are learning about the historical achievements of people from many different cultures, to broaden students’ understanding that role models exist in all cultures. We are committed to providing our students with “mirrors” and “windows”into our multicultural world.
