Maine’s Positive Story of the Day ~ Canaan Elementary School

I was out of school for 13 days due to my total hip operation.  Upon my return I resumed meeting all students as they entered in the morning. In Canaan every student comes in through the front door. I placed a chair in the middle of the hall just inside the door where I sat greeting all the children

As each student past I noticed everyone of the 220 of them reached out touched me as they went by. At the end a sixth grader asked to give me a hug and told me that the school was not the same without me.

I was very moved. Even after fifty years in education I still sometimes forget the daily impact we make on students.
It feels good to know that I have created a positive school climate in which everyone feels welcome.

We do make a difference!!
