Maine’s Positive Story of the Day from Old Town Elementary School ~

In March of 2020, Old Town Elementary School fifth graders, like everyone else, headed to their homes for what we thought would be a brief time away from school.  When it became clear that the year would not end with students present in our building, our fifth graders were saddened that they would not be able to perform their musical, The Lion King.  While rehearsing via Zoom, our theater staff assured the students that no matter what, even if it was over the summer, the show would go on!  Well, the world changed in ways we could not imagine and performing that year and even the next, proved impossible.  However, staff and student kept their promises to each other.  Over two years later, the now 7th graders took the stage at OTES! Staff and students took five Saturdays to prepare for this special performance, and it was worth it!  This small, but dedicated cast performed for many schoolmates, their friends and families, and even residents of local senior citizen homes.  The performance was met with standing ovations and brought tears to the eyes of many educators who have worked with these students over the years, and especially the dedicated theater staff.
