Maine’s Positive Story of the Day from Somerset Elementary ~
Somerset Elementary third graders in Mrs Kramer’s class met with the principal one day and said that they wanted to help the children of the Ukraine. When asked how they would do that, they shared plans for a bottle drive, school bake sale, and read-a-thon. The students set a goal for raising $200 and determined to send it to the United Way. These youngsters made posters and advertised their mission throughout the whole school. They also requested an advertisement in the school newsletter and on social media. The bake sale and read-a-thon were held on the same day and several classes got involved. The whole school also dressed in blue and yellow. The efforts of these third graders, their families, and their peers resulted in a donation of $2,276.31 to the United Way that is earmarked for the people of the Ukraine. We are so proud of the effort and energy they put into making a difference. You may have seen them featured on Channel 7 in March.
