Maine’s Positive Story from Oxford Elementary School ~
This February at Oxford Elementary School, as part of our celebration of the Winter Olympics, students in grades 4-6 participated in a Cardboard Sled Challenge. Students were challenged to work in teams of 3 or 4 to create a cardboard sled. The process focused on planning, testing, and revision of their ideas throughout the week before the big Sled Showcase on Friday afternoon where the teams raced their sleds down the playground hill.
The only constraints were that sleds must only be made of cardboard and duct tape, they could carry ONLY one or two team members, and they must cross the finish line to be eligible for awards.
This was a great community-building activity and we were excited to have parents and members of our School Board join us for the afternoon. What a great way to end the week and head into February vacation!
