Maine’s Positive Story of the Day ~ Oak Hill High School in Wales ~

For the past three to four years one of the science teachers, Ed Zuis, has engaged the school community in “Socktober,” an engaging fundraising activity.

During each week of October students are encouraged to wear fun socks and bring in a new pair of new socks for those in need. This year one of the students challenged Mr. Zuis to set the collection goal at 250 pairs of socks. He wasn’t sure if they would meet the goal but by the end of the month the school had over 250 pairs to donate to New Beginnings, a shelter in Lewiston.

They donated the socks to New Beginnings at the last student of the month assembly.
