Maine’s Positive Story of the Day ~ Bruce M Whittier Middle School in Poland ~

On November 12th, Whittier Middle School held the 12th Annual Tri-Town Family 5K in Minot. The Tri-Town Family 5K was created to culminate and celebrate the school’s first full-school run program in the fall of 2012.

The program has evolved over the years, but its intention remains the same in helping develop the community within the school, supporting healthy activity, and working toward achievable goals.

The 5K is a free event open to all members of the community. Local businesses provide all funding to make the run/walk a special day for participants and spectators. Funding provides a DJ and timer, snacks, prizes, shirts, and more.

This year 145 people ran or walked, and 2,692 people have crossed the finish line since year one.
