Maine’s Principal of the Day ~ Linda Pease, Principal of Medomak Valley High School, Waldoboro and Maine’s Principal of the Year ~
October is Principals’ Month and in honor of Maine’s exceptional principals, the “MPA Positive Story of the Day” will feature a Maine Principal every day. Today we are honoring Linda Pease, Principal of Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, and Maine’s Principal of the Year!
Linda Pease was a teacher for 30 years, an Assistant Principal 3 years, and Principal for 6 years at Medomak Valley High School, Waldoboro, Maine – Panther Nation!
“The best part of my day in the life of being a principal is the morning. I greet students outside every morning welcoming them from the parking lot, parent dropoffs, and the buses. I make it a point to learn student names, to interact with joy and humor and portray a ‘Welcome to School’ demeanor. Today’s comments included, ‘Oh, I am so sorry you fell and ripped your jeans!’ or ‘How tall did you grow this summer – do your legs hurt?’ or ‘Do you have your whole bedroom in that bag or did you leave some things behind?’ 🙂 It is important to laugh! Before students even walk into the school, they are laughing or at least chuckling.
From there I do what has become ‘Walkabout.’ I go to every classroom door and if the door is already shut, I wave through the window, but if open, I step inside and briefly wish students and staff a great day of learning. During this time students and teachers alike might stop me in the hallway to share questions or concerns. It is a great way to take a pulse of the building and start the day with gratitude and joy. I am told that this practice is very much appreciated by staff and students. Everyone is ‘seen.’ This usually takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes, but it is well worth the time in its contribution to a positive school culture. I start the day uplifted – ready to meet whatever comes next!” ~ Linda Pease
