Maine’s Principal of the Day ~ Mel Burnham Barter, Principal of Monmouth Memorial School ~
October is Principals’ Month and in honor of Maine’s exceptional principals, the “MPA Positive Story of the Day” will feature a Maine Principal every day. Today we are honoring Mel Burnham Barter, Principal of Monmouth Memorial School.
Mel Burnham Barter is a former middle school ELA teacher and Pre-K-12 assistant principal. She has been the principal of Monmouth Memorial School, a Pre-K through 8th grade school in RSU 2 for 8 years. She is a youth coach, chair of the MPA field hockey committee, and certified ALICE trainer.
“One of the things I love about being a principal is the fast pace and variety. Today began in a middle school town meeting with students sharing their athletic accomplishments and reading campaign speeches for student government; it ended with a hand-in-hand walk and talk with a first grader. No day is ever the same!”
