Maine’s Principal of the Day ~ Dawn Moore, Principal of Leroy H Smith School in Winterport ~

October is Principals’ Month and in honor of Maine’s exceptional principals, the “MPA Positive Story of the Day” will  feature a Maine Principal every day.  Today we are honoring Dawn Moore, the Principal of Leroy H Smith School in Winterport.

Dawn has been in education for over 32 years. She has diverse professional experiences, ranging from teaching kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades, to serving in administrative roles.  She is also a Pre-K coordinator and an instructor in higher education. Dawn was Maine’s 2018 National Distinguished Principal. She also serves on a state Pre-K advisory board to promote early intervention for all as well as on the MPA Board of Directors.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of being a principal is my daily interactions with students. Especially in the mornings when I am greeted with smiles and endless energy of young learners as they enter the school building. Witnessing their enthusiasm for learning fills my heart. The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and the community—all while making a positive impact and supporting our students’ growth and development—is truly fulfilling. It is a privilege to serve as a principal.”
